Becoming a Christian

Let's make this as simple as possible.
I've wanted to know God for many years. Yes you can know Him in a personal way. Many have experienced Him.
Often we think God is up their somewhere in the sky looking down at us ... far away, examining every decision we make. Maybe, He is cross and angry with us for making bad decisions? Maybe He is disinterested in us?
No, far from it. He knows we have made wrong decisions. He knows how flawed we are. Yes, He is holy & hates sin and wrong doing. But Jesus, His Son, came to take the punishment for our wrong doing, and He "became sin" out of love for us and died, so that we would turn and say "Thanks" and decide to follow Him, trust Him and begin to know Him intimately.
The Father loves us. He does not want to be "far away" from you. The opposite is true. Like a father looking and waiting for His child who is far away, so your Father is longing to meet you, embrace you and tell you about all the love and great plans He has for you.
How can you become a Christian?
Have a look at the above diagrams.
See if you can understand them. If so, ask yourself ... Where do I stand? On what side of the divide do I stand?
Where do I want to stand? Do I want a relationship with God?
Decide to cross over, if you do. There is only ONE way, and that is total dependence of Jesus Christ. He is the ONLY bridge to God.
Speak to God right now. You could use the following prayer or you could use your own words ....
Father, I long to come to you. I turn from the way I have been living and want a real and intimate relationship with you. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for sending your only son Jesus Christ to die for me. I now believe and receive your love. Come into my heart and be my God, my Saviour and my Lord. I will follow where you lead me.
I trust in you. Thank you. In Jesus name I ask this. Amen!
Do get to know God by reading the Bible (start in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and begin chatting with God, who listens and will speak to you and guide you.
I encourage you to look up a Christian church where others are on the same journey of following Jesus and reading the bible and praying.
God bless you & lead you to great things.
Being a Christian ... Being "In" Christ

Now that you have decide to follow Jesus Christ (see above), it is important to realise all that you have "in Christ".
Here's a short story. They say this lady went down as “America’s Greatest Miser,” yet when she died in 1916, “Hetty” Green left an estate valued at over 100 million.
She ate cold oatmeal because it cost money to heat it.
Seemingly, her son had to suffer a leg amputation, because she delayed so long in looking for a free clinic that his case became incurable. She was immensely wealthy, yet she chose to live like a pauper.
But Hetty Green can be an illustration of too many Christians today.
We have limitless wealth at our disposal "in" Jesus Christ, and yet we appear to live like paupers.
Good works, religion, morality, self improvement, holding onto money or "stuff" etc can pressure us and cause us to exert much effort to gain God's favour and blessings.
But only being and resting "In" Christ Jesus (see Becoming a Christian above), and staying "in" him, will help us live a life of joy, favour, love and enjoying all the riches God has for us.
A New & Living Way - Hebrews 10, verses 19-25
On Sunday, 12th December 2010, the leadership of Abundant Life, Limerick launched "A New & Living Way to Live - a journey to genuine Friendships".
Sometimes, we ask one another the question " How are you?", to which the reply may be "I'm ok!" or "I'm not too bad".
What does that mean? Do we want to know more? Do we want to relate deeper to one another? Do we want genuine friendships?
Maybe asking "How are you really?" could bring a deeper response and help us relate beyond the layers that keep people at a distance.
